With cult hits like “Pump Up the Volume” and “Empire Records” under his belt, director Allan Moyle is no stranger to cult status. In fact, he hails from the world of independent film and only moved into mainstream later in his career. However, in “Weirdsville,” Moyle outdoes himself.

The 2007 Canadian film deals with the misadventures of two slackers named Royce and Dexter who believe their friend Mattie has just had a drug overdose. Do Royce and Dexter race to the hospital or call the cops as any normal person would do? No, their first thought is that they need to get rid of the body.Didn’t catch that? This explains it. One of them used to work at a drive-in theater, and the boiler room there seems like as good a place as any to bury Mattie. What they don’t bank on, however, is the band of Satanic cultists who also have plans for the drive-in. In their case, however, they are hoping to use the site for ritual sacrifices.

That’s only the beginning. From this point forward, the movie does indeed get weirder and weirder. The film’s been compared to movies like “Trainspotting,” but in fact, it has its own weird and unique charm.

It almost feels like you’re making a deal with the devil when you see Weirdsville show up on the queue. Having made its rounds through Blockbuster and Redbox and all those movie channels you get through the cable tv providers, you would think more people knew about this film, but such is not the case.

That being said, allow me to sum it up for you.

Weirdsvilles is weird.

The film is what many people would consider a slacker comedy featuring the comedic exploits of two stoners set against the backdrop of a sinister takeover. However, what makes this film so baffling is its shotgun approach to storytelling and its seeming identity crisis.

It never quite knows if it wants to be a full-on comedy or an earnest drama about the most ancient of all evils and, as a result, you have a very quirky and darkly bizarre experience. Another way to say it would be that it’s a very polarizing experience.

Of course, it’s not necessarily a bad thing when a film makes you laugh because of incredulity rather than obvious comedy. You’re always thinking about what you just saw, even after the movie is over. It’s much more than a diversion and, in some cases, you have to see it multiple times.

If, for nothing else, than to confirm to yourself that you actually just saw what you just saw.

The movie of Weirdsville was produced by Allan Moyle and premiered in 2007. It was filmed in Canada and the plot centers around three friends who accidently encounter the local satanic cult. The film received mixed reception and it was placed under the label of black comedy, which may not be favored by some viewers. The Weirdsville was heavily promoted and it founds its fans, however it did not make a major impression on the adult movie-going demographics of the population. Some reviews describe this move as bizarre with dark humor and less then interesting plot. However, the film has also received numerous positive opinions and was nominated for Director’s Guild of Canada in 2007, and for Golden Reel Award in USA in 2009.

The cast includes Wes Bentley as Royce, Scott Speedman as Dexter, and Taryn Manning as Matty. The roles were brilliantly played by the actors and have received well deserved recognition for turning quite difficult movie material into a comedy it was meant to be. Charming delivery and superb performance of the actors have gained them favorable reviews. Although some parts of the film may seem absurd, the story line has found its fans and the movie has been watched worldwide.

There is nothing like a human sacrifice at a drive-in movie theater to awaken the dark humor that is in us all. Weirdsville, staring Wes Bentley and Scott Speedman, is a classic comedy and horror film mixed into one that will have you jumping in your seat and laughing all at once.

This film starts with two guys and a girl enjoying some recreational drugs when it all goes awry. They soon discover that their girlfriend is now dead from an overdose and have to decide what to do about her body. Due to their drug use they panic and decide to bury her body in a closed down drive-in theater. This is when everything becomes chaotic and nothing goes as planned. They run into a cult that is performing a ritual in the boiler room of the drive-in and are discovered. The friends soon come up with a plan and discover the girl is not dead after all and they must find a way to hide her from the cult. Mixed in with all of this there is a drug dealer after them for debts unpaid. To appreciate the humor and horror, it is a must see.

Weirdsville will not let you down and you will soon be recommending it to your friends for a night of laughter and entertainment.

There are so many benefits of seeing a movie at the drive-in theater. One reason it is so attractive to families is the freedom to allow children to move around during the feature This can really allow parents to kick back and enjoy the show.

Actually, there are very few drive-ins left in the world. Those who love viewing movies in this manner can truly appreciate all the work that goes into making a drive in function. Most drive in theaters do not make a lot of money off admission and so they rely on the food that is prepared at their snack bar. But there is a lot going on at the drive-in, so what goes on in the basement?

Well, the basement is where much of the work takes place. Running the move and keeping it running is the biggest function that takes place underneath the scenes at the drive-in. Ensuring that the movie runs well and is timed right is one of the biggest jobs that those operating a drive in theater have. Rushing to start a movie too soon on a summer evening could make the movie virtually unviewable. Therefore timing is everything. Each movie has its own setting and so this can be especially important when running a movie that was filmed at night or in a darker lighting.

“Weirdsville,” well on its way to becoming a cult classic, was released at the Slamdance Festival in 2007. This dark comedy follows the absurd adventures that ensue when pair of Canadian stoners tries to cover up their complicity in the death of a girlfriend. Absurdity ensures when their plans to dispose of the body in an old drive in theater are interrupted by a satanic cult who have a bad case of hero-worship for a hippie internet genius.
The movie takes its cue from the efforts of the groundbreaking “Trainspotting,” and the gritty crime drama of author Elmore Leonard. The film’s director, Allan Moyle, has also taken a bite out of Quentin Tarantino. The effect is not so much homage as a loving send-up. It belongs in the category of such dark, quirky gems as “Bubba Ho-Tep,” “Magnolia,” or even the classic “Secret Life of Walter Mitty.”
A movie such as this one is meant to be watched, enjoyed, and dissected. Allan Moyle has created the perfect film for people who delight in oddball news stories and Ripley’s Believe it or Not. Lovers of film will thoroughly enjoy identifying the unlikely mash up of the stoner film, the gothic tale, and the crime drama.

Weirdsville is a funny comedy written by Willem Wennekers and directed by Allan Moyle. Weirdsville was released on the 16th of November, 2007. Weirdsville is about two friends, Dexter and Royce, whose lives consist of getting high on drugs and hanging out with Mattie, Royce’s girlfriend. One night Mattie takes too much drugs and is thought to have died. To make matters worse, the drugs belonged to Omar, a drug lord who supplied Dexter and Royce with drugs in order to sell and pay off a debt they owed.

Dexter and Royce realize that they are in a lot of trouble and decide to burry Mattie in a boiler room instead of calling the police and incriminating themselves. As they are in the process of burying Mattie, they run in to a satanic cult led by Abel, a former classmate, while in the middle of a ritual. Both Dexter and Royce are taken captive and as the struggle ensues, Mattie wakes up and is given chase. All three are able to get away from the cult, but their problems continue when they run into Omar and are given a quick beating. Omar tells them they owe him the money plus interest, and if they don’t make good on their payment, they will be put in a hospital. Dexter and Royale remember that Jason is a millionaire and has a lot of money in his home. They decide to break in and take the money, taking Dexter and Royale’s situation from bad to worse
